Voices of the Holocaust is an arrangement of music written during
the Holocaust in the ghettos and concentration camps. It comprises
22 songs structured as a dramatic cantata in five parts. The work is
80 minutes long and is scored
for SATB Chorus, SATB soloists, children's choir, string quartet,
piano, flute and oboe.
Voices was commissioned by Philip Klein and the State College Choral
Society (Russ Shelley, music director) and was premiered by the SCCS
in November 2004. It has since been performed several times in
Brazil (Sao Paulo, Salvador, and Rio de Janeiro) where it was
prepared by Cicero Alves Filho.
SCCS recorded the work in 2006. The recording is commercially
available from the State College Choral Society
website.
